There is more than one “children's space” at Daejeon's National Science Museum. Confusing Kkumatti for young children with the free Children's Science Museum can leave siblings unable to enter together or cause you to miss a booked session. Make this distinction first when visiting with children of different ages.

Key point

Plan separately for families booking Kkumatti and those visiting free exhibitions together.

What to remember

  • Kkumatti is for preschoolers ages 0 to 6 with an adult guardian.
  • Kkumatti starts at 10:00, 13:00, and 15:40; admission is KRW 2,000 per adult and KRW 1,000 per young child.
  • General exhibitions, including the Children's Science Museum and Natural History Hall, are free.

General hours and free exhibitions

The address is 481 Daedeok-daero, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. Hours are 09:30 to 17:30, with closures on Mondays, January 1, and Seollal and Chuseok day. Check date-specific notices when a closure overlaps a public holiday. General exhibitions at the Children's Science Museum, Natural History Hall, Human Evolution Hall, and Science and Technology Hall are free. Some activities within free galleries still require reservations or onsite registration.

School-age siblings cannot enter Kkumatti

Kkumatti is for preschoolers ages 0 to 6 accompanied by an adult. Elementary, middle, and high school students cannot enter, even as guardians. Individual admission is KRW 2,000 per adult and KRW 1,000 per young child; children under 36 months also pay. Reservations open at midnight 30 days before the visit.

Use the session times in the late-August 2026 notice

Kkumatti sessions run 10:00 to 11:50, 13:00 to 14:50, and 15:40 to 17:30. The August 31, 2026 onsite-ticket notice gives the same times. Same-day onsite ticket sales for visitors without reservations close at 11:30, 14:30, and 17:00 respectively; this does not guarantee places for late arrivals. Distinguish this schedule from the 09:30 start shown in older travel articles.

Entry does not make every activity available to every child

Kkumatti's Milky Way Train is limited to young children at least 90 cm tall. The facility asks visitors to bring shoe covers or socks with nonslip soles. Admission eligibility and individual equipment height limits are separate checks.

With siblings, consider the free exhibitions

With one adult, a preschooler, and an elementary-school child, visit the free Children's Science Museum or Natural History Hall together instead of Kkumatti. With two adults, you can split between Kkumatti and the general galleries, but agree on a meeting place and time first. With one child, a Kkumatti session followed by a meal can fill a half-day outing.

Add at most one new building after the session

If you book the 13:00 session, eat first and decide after 14:50 whether to add one free exhibition, such as Natural History Hall. Stroller travel times between buildings remain unconfirmed, so you need not add another gallery. Current nursing room locations and restaurant locations and hours are also unconfirmed. Eat before or after the visit. If you cannot establish whether a nursing space is available, keep the visit short or postpone it.

Worksheet

The first gallery that fits your child

Choose based on how your child enjoys exhibits, not only an age chart.

Move and try
A children's area with buttons and pretend play
Watch quietly
A natural history area with dinosaurs and animal specimens
If you miss it
A nearby regular exhibit to visit instead of the reserved activity

Notes

  • Current nursing room and food-service operations by building, parking fees, and stroller travel times remain unconfirmed. It is fine to head home after just one session.
